Ultimate Hand Workshop taught by Mike Call

Tuition: $50 plus $30 supply fee (includes: alginate and plaster for hand casting, and the armature and clay for the sculpture) Students are responsible for bringing any sculpture tools.  Recommended tools: small rake, small loop tool, assorted wood tools.
Come and enjoy the company of other artists while we learn more about the Human hand. This class is for anyone who deals with the hand in their art.  Whether you are a sculptor, portrait painter, illustrator or just want to try sculpting for the first time, this class is perfect for you. The workshop is divided into two sessions, morning and afternoon.  During the morning we will begin by looking at how the masters have exploited the expressive power of the hand over the centuries.  We will also look at the proportions, structure, and basic anatomy of the hand.  At the end of the morning session each student will be able to make a plaster cast of their own hand. 

After intermission, each student will be provided with an armature and clay in order to make a sculpture of their hand that was cast earlier.  Sculpting the hand will take up the balance of the workshop.  The instructor will continue to provide individual critiques and technical support throughout the afternoon.

For three decades Bountiful/Davis Art Center (BDAC) has been offering original hand-made art in its galleries during the Holiday Season.  “A seasonal favorite since 1974, this year’s Annual Holiday Show & Sale features the works of Utah’s most creative artists and artisans.  More than one hundred artists will be represented and the variety and selection will be endless,” says Emma J. Dugal, BDAC director.
The annual Holiday Show is a highly celebrated seasonal tradition of Bountiful/Davis Art Center. Come enjoy the festiveair of this exhibit, featuring select works from many of Utah’s finest artists, plus a variety of quilts from the Salt Lake-Ogden Longarm Quilt Guild. The BDAC Artists’ Tree will offer 4”x 4” original one-of-a-kind Santa Claus paintings by featured artists for only $10!
The exhibition which runs through December 23, opens Friday, November 19 with a public reception from 7-9 p.m. that features art, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment. Music will be provided by JoAnne Elmer’s holiday themed piano music. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Utah artists and the BDAC.
