Kitchen Conversation 2nd Place
It's taken me a week to get back, but I was excited to get 2nd place overall in the Illustrators Utah show! Wow! What an honor. The juror, Robert Neubecker, was intrigued with the storytelling and the drawn to the mystery of the conversation.
Here's what he wrote concerning my piece:
"First of all, oil paint is unfair-it's just such a lucious medium that one is immediately drawn to it. This is a wonderful little painting of a very dramatic conversation about, what? Whatever it is, it's important and the expression of intent concern on the face of the waman in the Viridian jacket pulls you in and holds you. An intimate domestic scene worthy of Vermeer, masterly painted and imagined."
Man, what a shot in the arm! I couldn't believe it. Made me incredibly happy.
You've got to go see Paul's Classic Illustration collection. A rare treat to see the originals. I've been spoiled since I've seen them at his home and studio over the years. It is fun to see them displayed in a gallery. He is going to speak on his collection there at BDAC on Oct. 21st. I'll get back with further details.
It was an evening spent with good friends, food and surprises.
