Santa's Touch 4x4 acrylic Sold

Another great Holiday Show opening last night at BDAC.  Still some nice pieces left.  Go shop!

Mike Call will be giving a sculpture workshop on hands in Februrary.  Don't miss it.   Check my Infusion Workshop/Open Life Session page.  Further details TBA.

I'm also going to do some workshops at BDAC.  What a wonderful opportunity to be associated with such a tremendous institution.  My professor, and master glazer, Anton Rasmussen was the first director of BDAC.   I'll talk about Tony in a future post.  I've really been blessed to have studied with the best.  Check my Infusion Workshop/Open Life Session page for an overview and future details.

Well, I'm honored!  I get to continue the BDAC life drawing tradition as monitor of their life sessions.   We'll meet Wednesday evenings  but further details are still in the works.  It will be an open session for those who wish to draw, paint or sculpt from the live, undraped model.  There will be no instruction, just time to hone skills.  To my students at SLCC... no excuses!  Come out and draw and paint and draw and paint more!  Because we can always do MORE!

We, as artists, can NEVER get enough anatomy/life study.  A lifelong process, which is often misunderstood by non-artists.  The "undraped" definition seems to be accepted in the medical field, but bypassed or defined as an "undesireable element" when it comes to the art field.  I think those folks should re visit Michelangelo, Raphael, Dean Cornwell, Haddon Sundblom and others in Fine Art and Illustration art history plus take artistic anatomy courses themselves to appreciate the knowledge, skill, respect and reverence it takes to interpret and understand artistically our beautiful gift that is the human body.

Ho Ho Ho To The Santa Show Tonight

I'll have two Santa pieces in the Annual BDAC Holiday Show.  It opens tonight.  This piece is on the Santa Claus donation tree:

Santa's Touch 4x4 Acrylic on primed foamcore (paper surface)  Surface provided by BDAC

This piece hangs in the show.

Cookies and Cocoa 7x5 oil on canvas mounted on panel

Come to the opening tonight.  It is always a terrific show a lot of nice gifts for the Holidays!...or any time!

I love painting these Santas...and listening to Trans Siberian Orchestra (TSO).  Awesome band.  My family and I went to their concert last year.  Fantastic!  I have all their work.  I'm a guitar player and I love their stuff.  (I play a little piano, but definitely my "second" instrument)

I have it on good authority, as Mr. Claus' personal portrait painter, that he jams to TSO while he's making toys and packing his sleigh.

Terra Nova Demo and Secret Paintings Revealed

Past Demo at Terra Nova Gallery...New One Coming...Nov. 5th
I'm thrilled to paint another figure demo at David's Terra Nova Gallery in Provo on Friday, November 5th at the opening of the annual Great Things, Small Packages Show during the gallery stroll.  More info to come.

I've been wrapping up illustration work so now I'm finally getting the "secret" work posted my wife and I painted for Ogden Union Station's Secret Show.  They didn't ask or show titles, so I left mine untitled.  Cynthia titled hers.  We also got a chance to see Tom Howard and his beautiful landscape show at the Station.  He also had a piece in the Secret Show.   I felt bad that we'd missed his opening.  It was the same night as the Provo Plein Air opening.

I'm now working on another secret painting.  It is for Bountiful/Davis Art Center's 2nd Annual Evening in the Art fundraiser October 29, 2010.  Tickets are $30.00 per person.  They are doing the "secret" auction thing this year.  I demonstrated a donation portrait for them last year.
(I don't know what happened but those demo photos disappeared along with that military donation landscape and some personal photos of my dad.  Maybe I thought I had them burned or filed and accidentally trashed them???...breathing too much retouch varnish :)   I'll be able to get the military one from a friend, but the others are gone unless they somehow... re-appear).
